Current Problems of the Global Economy in 2023: Geopolitical and Geoeconomic Aspects of Assessment of Development Effectiveness

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of the presented research is to develop a criterion for assessing the effectiveness of the development of the world economy, taking into account the influence of modern geopolitical and geoeconomic aspects. Design/methodology/approach: The authors used the principles and methods of qualimetry that ensure the formation of universal effectiveness criteria that are invariant to the ranges and dimensions of the indicators included in them as a research tool in this work. The object of the study is the economies of the countries of the world. The composition, economic characteristics of the countries of the world, the study of their relationship in statics and dynamics are the subject of the presented research. Findings: A new integral criterion for assessing the effectiveness of the development of the world economy has been formed, taking into account:

• the dynamics of global GDP;


• the gap in the dynamics of GDP of various countries of the world for the year;


• the degree of unevenness of the level of economic development of various countries of the world in statics and dynamics (by GDP per capita by PPP);


• the level and dynamics of the gap between the volume of financial assets and the volume of real assets;


• the level and dynamics of the use of non-market instruments in competition (including sanctions pressure on countries);


• the proportion of the population living below the poverty line;


• the level and dynamics of the use of renewable energy sources;


• the dynamics of the pace of climate change (the level of acceleration or deceleration of global warming) under the influence of anthropogenic factors;


• the level and dynamics of global spending on arms (as a percentage of world GDP), etc.

Originality/value: The proposed integral criterion for assessing the effectiveness of the development of the world economy has been created for the first time and takes into account the problems of the development of the world economy in the modern post-industrial era. In this regard, the use of local criteria included in the developed integral criterion for assessing the effectiveness of the development of the world economy makes it possible to determine the necessary management tools to solve the problems of the development of the world economy in the modern post-industrial era.
